Through The Windows Of October #20

If you have been following me for a long time you may remember the post I wrote on depression https://abm97.wordpress.com/2015/02/03/depression/ How I said I wasn’t supposed to be and I was my mothers biggest mistake. (I am not a mistake but my mother does have regrets from the relationship that brought me into this world 😉 ) Well last week my parents came to me and asked if I still wanted to change my last name. That’s what this poem is about.

The ocean

More Than A Name

Every time I sign my name,
I feel this kind of shame…
It’s as if I must bear the blame.

The child of a scarlet letter,
Life can only get much better…

Never having a sense of belonging.
Always feeling you’re wronging,
Or somehow you’re prolonging…

Soon it will be in writing,
Viewed with silver lighting…

But my looks will never change,
The past you cannot rearrange…
You may be finding this all strange.

I will never have his blood,
But our love is thicker than mud…

Daddy’s the first giving his name,
The first his love to proclaim…
My Daddy’s little girl I became.

I will love him forever,
Our souls bound together…

I love my Dad past the deepest seas.
He gave me his love for teas…
And his love for playing in trees.

My name defines me.
It tells other who I want to be…

I hope you have all had a good Tuesday. Remember to smile deary!!!! I’ll see you all tomorrow with a new post!

Like Mei said, that was very beautiful. I thought the “Scarlet Letter” was rather clever…having just finished reading that book… 😛 And that last line…was very, very well done. Good job. Thank you for writing and sharing all these poems. =)
